Targets

    • Contains code to disable Windows Defender

      A .NET executable tasked with disabling Windows Defender capabilities such as realtime monitoring, blocking at first seen, etc.

    • Disables service(s)

    • Jigsaw Ransomware

      Ransomware family first created in 2016. Named based on wallpaper set after infection in the early versions.

    • Modifies Windows Defender Real-time Protection settings

    • Process spawned unexpected child process

      This typically indicates the parent process was compromised via an exploit or macro.

    • Deletes shadow copies

      Ransomware often targets backup files to inhibit system recovery.

    • Renames multiple (3741) files with added filename extension

      This suggests ransomware activity of encrypting all the files on the system.

    • Blocklisted process makes network request

    • Downloads MZ/PE file

    • Drops startup file

    • Executes dropped EXE

    • Reads user/profile data of web browsers

      Infostealers often target stored browser data, which can include saved credentials etc.

    • Adds Run key to start application

    • Command and Scripting Interpreter: PowerShell

      Using powershell.exe command.

    • Drops desktop.ini file(s)

    • Enumerates connected drives

      Attempts to read the root path of hard drives other than the default C: drive.

    • Legitimate hosting services abused for malware hosting/C2

    • Network Service Discovery

      Attempt to gather information on host's network.

    • Drops file in System32 directory
