Targets

    • Modifies visibility of file extensions in Explorer

    • Modifies visibility of hidden/system files in Explorer

    • Badlisted process makes network request

      Network request originating from process or tool commonly abused by malware.

    • Boot or Logon Autostart Execution: Active Setup

      Adversaries may achieve persistence by adding a Registry key to the Active Setup of the local machine.

    • Drops file in Drivers directory

    • Event Triggered Execution: Image File Execution Options Injection

    • Manipulates Digital Signatures

      Attackers can apply techniques such as changing the registry keys of authenticode & Cryptography to make their binary seem validly signed.

    • Event Triggered Execution: Component Object Model Hijacking

      Adversaries may establish persistence by executing malicious content triggered by hijacked references to Component Object Model (COM) objects.

    • Executes dropped EXE

    • Loads dropped DLL

    • Modifies file permissions

    • Modifies system executable filetype association

    • Reads user/profile data of web browsers

      Infostealers often target stored browser data, which can include saved credentials etc.

    • Adds Run key to start application

    • Checks installed software on the system

      Looks up Uninstall key entries in the registry to enumerate software on the system.

    • Checks whether UAC is enabled

    • Contacts third-party web service commonly abused for C2

      Legitimate web (hosting) services can be abused by malware authors to host malware or C2s.

    • Drops desktop.ini file(s)

    • Enumerates connected drives

      Attempts to read the root path of hard drives other than the default C: drive.

    • Indicator Removal: Clear Persistence

      remove IFEO.

    • Installs/modifies Browser Helper Object

      BHOs are DLL modules which act as plugins for Internet Explorer.

    • Power Settings

      powercfg controls all configurable power system settings on a Windows system and can be abused to prevent an infected host from locking or shutting down.

    • Drops file in System32 directory
